RE: KOA Salt Lake City
In August of this year we took a 5 week trip from So. Calif.to Oregon and back. In Oregon, at a Rally, we were told the KOA, in Salt Lake was not that clean or safe and older--we never went there--and ended up at the Pony Express RV Resort just outside of Salt Lake. This is a newer campground--super clean and very nice and very close to the 80 and 215 highways. Only complaint was it was difficult to find and very few trees for shade--the trees were there, just not fully grown.

One to consider is Northwood MFG. They make the Arctic Fox, Nash, and Desert Fox. The Co. is located in La Grande, Or. This is a Co. that is not having any financial problems--they sell more than 50% of the campers in Canada and Alaska. They are a well made, heavy duty, 4 seasons camper also designed to go off road. RE: 1/2 ton towable 5th wheels?
Northwood---Arctic Fox and Nash---5th wheels has recently come out with a 23 ft'r that can be pulled by a 1/2 ton--also, it has a slide which really increases the living area--check it out, Lars

I have used GasBuddy.com for years, but always on the computer. Where it gives individaul columns of gas or diesel I hit on the word DIESEL and it goes to diesel prices. Lars

I have had Good Year Wranglers on my last 2 5'vrs---which are made in the U.S.of A.--and had no problems. I have seen and heard quite a few stories good and bad on Good Year Marathons--don't think they are made in the U.S. And, the Wranglers I use are LT's--not a trailer tire--but they sure seem to work well. I don't know the options in your size--we have 16". Good Luck, Lars

RE: Arctic Fox 5th Wheel--Hide a Bed or Jack-Knife Sofa
Definitely get the hide a bed--we have it and it gets used quite often--you can always purchase a mattress cover to suite your needs.
We have the newer thermal pane windows--made in Canada--and have no problem with them. Don't know the size of your new unit--we have the 29 5T and would now probably opt for the larger air cond--the 13.5 is adequete--but I would go for the larger after this last trip--we were in 108 degree temp and the smaller unit took a bit longer to cool things off. We have the Dexter Never-Lube-Axles--the newer axles were not available when we ordered out 5'vr. What other options did you get?---Lars

Larry--check out the Arctic Fox, made by Northwood, in La Grande, Or. They are a family owned co. who really take pride in their products. There is an excellent owners Forum which can answer any questions you might have. We are on our 2nd Arctic Fox--and frankly--I wouldn't consider any other 5'vr---for our purposes. :D Good Luck, Lars

Everybody is going to have their own ideas on this subject----so, my input would be the Arctic Fox/Nash, made by Northwood, in La Grande, Or. They are made as a 4 seasons camper and for the Canadian environment as well as being made as an off road camper--you will find that an awful lot of owners use them for fishing or hunting trips(Boondocking)--- off of the beaten path. On my 2nd Arctic Fox---1st was a 03 28 5D and and currently an 07 29 5T. Just returned from the annual Arctic Fox Rally, in La Grande, Or. Did a factory tour, met a lot of Arctic Fox/ Nash owners and talked with Ron Nash--the owner of Northwood. He was saying the about 50% of Arctic Fox's are sold in Canada. They are a rugged well built trailer with a lot of refinements you won't find in other trailers. The are not many options because everything is pretty much standard equipment, from the factory---like shock absorbers, 10 gal water heater, block foam insulation. Northwood builds their own frame and suspension. Arctic Fox trailers are designed to go off road. After touring the factory and talking to some employees I was impressed witht the fact the the people building the campers really liked their job and took quite a bit of pride in their product. We are currently on our biggest RV trip. From So. Calif to Portland, Or.--thru Idaho and Utah--where we are currently--than probably to Lake Tahoe and than South. My wife has just retired--the trip has been in the makings for a while and the big oil co's :M are not going to control our plans for our retired life. During our trip we met some RV'ERS from Holland--they had a rental and they thought our fuel was really cheap--in Holland it is $10-$11/gallon. Happy Travels, Lars

You are right--they are truck tires-not trailer--but, they sure do the job for trailers---there has been many discussions on the pro's and con's of truck tires on trailers--for me--I go with the truck tires--my 1st Arctic Fox from the factory had Wranglers--rated E, M + S, 4 seasons tires on it--they lasted 4 years and about 20,000 miles----Lars

Goodyear Wranglers are made in the good ole U.S.of A. Last set on my old 5'vr went 4 years--my new 5'vr came with Triangle tires--yup,made in China--gave them to Salvation Army and put on Goodyear Wranglers. Here is a website you might like to check out--Good Luck, Lars

RE: pismo beach rv vs. campland on the bay
Have stayed at both--just came back from Pismo Beach--Pismo Coast Village--and had a great time--it is right next to the beach/ocean and it is a great beach for walking, exploring or you can drive onto the beach. We rode our bicycles into Pismo--cute seaside town. There are a lot of areas to bicycle.
Campland is huge and a zoo--very small crowded beach--700 sites--very expensive--has sites at different levels--some very crowded, some not so much--we have always stayed at sites that overlook the Bay--they are expensive.
My choice for a good wholesome experience would be Pismo. Lars
